When does CCD2 come into effect?

 Effective Date: 20 November 2026

CCD2 will apply across the EU from 20 November 2026.

From this date, the new CCD2 requirements will apply to new consumer credit agreements.

Consumer credit agreements concluded before 20 November 2026 will generally continue to be governed by the rules that applied when the agreement was entered into.

What changes from 20 November 2026?

New legal requirements for consumer credit and Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) will apply from 20 November 2026. To reflect these requirements, we are updating our Special Terms and Conditions for Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL).

Here’s what you need to know and what you may need to check.

What is changing?

The updated BNPL terms reflect the new requirements and clarify the respective processes and responsibilities between you and Unzer.

The main changes relate to:

  • Customer information: Information and contractual documents that must be provided to customers when using BNPL.
  • Checkout: Requirements for how BNPL is presented and actively selected as a payment method.
  • Creditworthiness checks: Requirements around credit assessments and related customer communication.
  • Right of withdrawal: Requirements relating to customers’ withdrawal rights.
  • BNPL advertising: How BNPL can be displayed, communicated and promoted.
  • Merchant responsibilities: Certain information and cooperation requirements related to offering BNPL.

You can find the complete updated BNPL Special Terms and Conditions [here].

What do I need to do?

Please ensure that you take the updated BNPL terms into account from 20 November 2026.

Depending on your setup, we recommend checking:

  1. Your BNPL integration
Review whether any adjustments to your integration are required.

  2. Your checkout
Make sure BNPL is presented and selected in accordance with the updated requirements.

  3. Your customer communication
Check any BNPL information, terms or materials that you provide directly to your customers.

  4. Your marketing materials
If you use your own BNPL links, wording or promotional materials, make sure you use the latest approved information from 20 November 2026.

Do I need to update Unzer-provided BNPL content?

If you use BNPL links or content provided and maintained directly by Unzer, you do not need to update this content yourself.

If you have copied or incorporated Unzer-provided BNPL content into your own terms, website, checkout or customer communication, please review and update your own content accordingly.

How does Unzer support me?

We’ll provide the information and updated documentation relevant to your BNPL integration through the usual Unzer channels.
