Error codes for card terminals
Here you will find a list of the most common "FEP-Codes" for your card reader.

FEP 02
What does FEP 02 mean during a credit card payment?
Some issuing banks require a phone authorization to complete a credit card payment. Through the credit card’s telephone approval service, you will receive an authorization number for the upcoming payment.
FEP 03
What does FEP 03 = Invalid VU Number mean?
If the card is a payment card for refugees, it may be subject to state-specific restrictions. Only the cardholder can clarify this with their authority. The payment was not authorized or approved by the issuing bank.
FEP 05
What does FEP 05 mean during a payment?
The payment was not successful.
The transaction was declined by the authorizing bank.
Please use another payment method. The customer should contact their bank.
FEP 12
What does FEP 12 mean during a payment?
The transaction could not be completed.
It’s possible that the VU number for credit card acceptance is not yet activated.

FEP 19
What does FEP 19 mean during a contactless payment?
The limit for contactless payments has been reached.
Please retry the payment by inserting the card.
FEP 30
What does FEP 30 mean during a contactless payment?
There was a format error.
The payment was not successful.
Please follow our guide for deleting the merchant journal to fix the issue.

FEP 40
What does FEP 40 mean during a payment?
The creditor identification number is missing.

FEP 51
What does FEP 51 mean during a payment?
The card limit has been reached or exceeded.
The customer should use a different card or payment method.
If the error repeats, the cardholder should contact their bank.
FEP 55
What does FEP 55 mean during a payment?
The PIN was entered incorrectly.
Please re-enter the PIN or cancel the transaction.
FEP 58
What does FEP 58 mean during a payment?
The transaction could not be completed.
The terminal profile may need to be checked.

FEP 60 / 65
What do FEP 60 or FEP 65 mean during a contactless payment?
The limit for contactless payments has been reached.
No successful payment has taken place.
Please retry the payment by inserting the card.
FEP 62
What does FEP 62 mean during a manual credit card payment?
The payment was not approved or authorized by the issuing bank. Ask the customer to use a different payment method.
FEP 62 during a direct debit (ELV) payment?
The customer’s card is not permitted for ELV payments. The terminal profile needs to be updated.

FEP 75
What does FEP 75 mean during a payment?
The PIN was entered incorrectly too many times.
The cardholder should contact their bank.
FEP 80
What does FEP 80 mean: “Amount is no longer reserved”?
The payment was not successful.
The transaction was not approved by the bank.
Please use another payment method. The customer should contact their bank.
FEP 82 / 83
What do FEP 82 / 83 mean during a payment?
The terminal ID is blocked.

FEP 88
What does FEP 88 mean during a contactless payment?
This is most likely a foreign credit card.
It cannot be processed contactlessly.
Please retry the payment by inserting the card.
FEP 91
What does FEP 91 mean during a payment?
The authorization system is currently unavailable.
This may be due to an issue with the network provider or card issuer.
Please choose a different payment method or contact the service hotline.
The number is displayed on your terminal.
FEP 91 / 96
What do FEP 91 / 96 mean during a payment?
Manual credit card payments are not permitted.
Please retry the payment by inserting the card.
Note: Manual credit card payments are only allowed in the following industries: hotels, car rentals, florists. All other industries may only accept credit cards contactlessly or by inserting the card.
